Dehradun – On Thursday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took part in the International Day of Older Persons ceremony at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Neembuwala. The event marked the launch of a specially designed civil‑services preparation programme for candidates with disabilities and featured tributes to 23 senior citizens for their outstanding contributions across various fields.

Four young talents who excelled in essay and painting contests were also recognized for their creativity.

₹147.34 Crore Pension Disbursed in One Click

Through a streamlined digital payment portal, the chief minister released the September pension allotment. A total of 9,93,886 beneficiaries received an aggregate amount of ₹147 crore 34 lakh 53 thousand.

In addition, Dhami reaffirmed his commitment to elder welfare by taking an oath to support senior citizens and planting a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on the centre’s grounds.

“Our Elders Are the Family’s Shield”

Addressing the gathering, Dhami extended heartfelt wishes to senior citizens, praying for their health and longevity. He emphasized that older adults provide emotional stability, impart values, and act as a protective shield that nurtures discipline, affection, and strong family bonds.

He added that their presence enriches households by passing on life lessons and fostering a sense of security for younger generations.

“When our seniors thrive, the entire family flourishes,” Dhami said.

The ceremony concluded with a pledge to continue empowering both the elderly and differently‑abled aspirants, underscoring the state’s inclusive vision for education and social security.
